Watching YouTube?

10 January, 2025

It seems a little silly that I haven't written on this subject yet, because friends, I consume a lot of YouTube videos. I don't even know where to start really, but let's see where we end up.

Since back when I was way over-stressed from my job, YouTube has been my little escape from reality. I guess Second Life is kind of that as well, but with YouTube you don't really have to do anything at all, you don't need to be social, you can just sit back and let whatever you're watching wash over you. I guess it's kind of like how TV used to be for people, but I get to choose what's on the TV and block off of the ads (Thanks, uBlock Origin!). Whatever topic you happen to be interested in, there's likely to be a ton of videos to watch, and I'm going to watch them. You all likely know what YouTube is, unless you're reading this in some sort of distant future where nobody remembers it anymore. In which case. Well. I hope that whatever you have now is way better.

So, uh, what's something actually useful that I could share about my crippling YouTube addiction? Maybe a list of my Top 10 Favorite Channels, eh? eh? Well, cutting this list down to 10 is difficult as Hell, but I'm going to do my best. Wish me luck, because I'm writing this right before I actually make the attempt. Let's find out what this list ends up looking like together!

Ruby's Top 10 YouTube Channels January 2025:

  1. Kripparrian (Gaming, No-Life Exemplar, Puts Me To Sleep)
  2. Yoga With Adriene (Guess!)
  3. Action Retro (Retro Computing, Linux Installation, Old Web Preservation)
  4. Foresty Forest (Vanlife, Mountain Climbing, General Zest For Life)
  5. DankPods (Mp3 Player Reviews, Car Repair, Educational Drum Videos, A Snake)
  6. Nemui Atelier (A E S T H E T I C)
  7. Diinki (Arch Linux Femboy)
  8. Brutalmoose (General Weirdness, Food & Video Game Reviews)
  9. Gamer's Nexus (Actual Real Reporting, PC Hardware)
  10. Weird Explorer (Travelogues, Fruit Reviews, Contortionist)

There's like...30 other channels at least that I watch regularly, and I'm certain that I'm forgetting one of my absolute favorites that should be on this list but this is what I came up with by scrolling through my watch history for a while just now! I tried to put them into some sort of order, but it's like ranking your favorite children. Notice that I didn't list any bands here, even though YouTube is probably where I keep up with most of the music that I love! But this post can't be infinitely long, so I'll cut things off here.
